Frequently Asked Questions
Getting started
-
No. You can book directly with me, no referral needed.
-
Send me a message through the contact form. I’ll reply with more details and my current availability.
-
If my practice is at capacity, I keep a waitlist. I’ll contact you when a spot comes up that matches the times you’re available.
-
Not much. You’ll fill in two forms: a Counselling Agreement and a Client Intake Form. Or a Supervision Agreement. All forms can be done on your phone or computer, and they need to be done within 48 hours of booking.
-
We get to know each other. I’ll ask what brought you here, where you’re at now and what you’d like from therapy. You decide how much you share, and we go at your pace.
-
Tell me. Feeling comfortable with your therapist makes a big difference, and you won’t hurt my feelings. If we’re not the right fit, I’ll do my best to refer you to someone in my network who might be.
-
No. My work is with adults. If you’re looking for support for a child or young person, get in touch and I’ll try to point you in the right direction.
Fees and payment
-
Individual therapy: $170 + GST per 50-minute session
Relationship therapy (joint sessions): $200 + GST per 50-minute session
GST only applies to clients in Australia.
Fee increase from January 1st 2027
-
No. Medicare’s Better Access scheme doesn’t cover counsellors, so I can’t offer Medicare rebates.
-
No. I’m not currently a provider with any private health funds.
-
Not at the moment. If my fees are out of reach, I’m happy to suggest other services that might help.
-
You’ll get an invoice by email. You can pay online or by bank transfer, and payment is due 24 hours before your session.
-
48 hours’ notice is required to cancel or reschedule with no fee. If you cancel with less than 48hrs notice or don’t turn up, the full session fee applies. The details are in your Counselling Agreement.
Sessions
-
In person at a private location in Goulburn, NSW. I’ll send you the address when you book. Online sessions are available for every service, anywhere in Australia and New Zealand.
-
50 minutes. Longer 90-minute sessions are possible if we discuss them first, at a higher fee.
-
Usually fortnightly, at the same day and time each session. A regular routine is especially helpful in trauma work.
-
There’s no set timeline. Some people come for a few months to work through something specific. Others stay longer because there’s a lot to unpack after years in a high-control group. We’ll check in regularly about how things are going and what you want next.
-
Each person has an individual session with me first and after that we book your first joint session.
Privacy and Other
-
Yes, with a few legal and safety exceptions, such as if someone is at serious risk of harm. I’ll explain these in our first session, and they’re also in your Counselling Agreement.
-
I’m not a crisis service, and I can’t always reply quickly. If you’re in immediate danger, call 000 in Australia or 111 in New Zealand. For support at any time, call Lifeline on 13 11 14 in Australia, or call or text 1737 in New Zealand.
-
Yes. I co-founded Religious Trauma and Cults (RTC), which has a directory of practitioners across Australia and New Zealand with personal and professional experience of religious harm. Take a look here.
